Our History
Welcome to a beautiful piece of paradise on the Sea of Cortez. Tucked away in a lush palm garden next to a secluded East Cape beach, this quiet Baja escape is located just 15 minutes from downtown San Jose del Cabo, B.C.S, Mexico. For many years, when the coast road that ran from La Playita (now Puerto Los Cabos) to Cabo Pulmo was the only way to visit the East Cape, Buzzards Bar and Grill was the first or last stop to enjoy a meal and a beverage (in either direction). It became an institution, for surfers and visitors who wanted to enjoy the pristine beaches along the East Cape. Until February of 2019, its bed and Breakfast – Fonda del Mar – was also one of the only places to stay (if you weren’t camping in an arroyo).
Buzzards is still a local institution but now it is a gathering place for people from the neighboring communities – La Laguna, Zacatitos, Shipwrecks – to meet and enjoy a great meal, party with friends or dance to one of the local bands that often play at the bar and grill. Buzzard's also has a charming romantic atmosphere for couples who want to enjoy beautiful sunset walks on the beach, dine on a homemade candle-lit dinner, and enjoy delectable drinks under a palapa roof with a sandy beach floor.
Meet the Owner - Paul Meredith
Since October 2010, Buzzards Bar and Grill has been owned by Paul Meredith. A Canadian from Chatham, Ontario and an electrician by trade, Paul had never had any experience with restaurants or bed and breakfasts. In fact, he didn’t even really know when he came to Los Cabos on vacation with his girlfriend that after a short stay, he would end up the owner of this iconic property in La Laguna. He fell in love with Los Cabos and with Buzzards and over several days ended up negotiating a deal with Denny and Judy, the owners to buy the business. Despite his lack of experience, Paul jumped right in to learn the business, with only a few weeks of transition time with Denny and Judy.
Today, you will see Paul at Buzzards every day from before the restaurant opens in the morning until after it closes. While it can be challenging, it is Paul’s friendly, outgoing nature that keeps Buzzards a great success with both the customers and the staff. No one forgets their first meeting with Paul with his laid-back nature and broad smile.

Our Philosophy
What makes Buzzards Bar and Grill a success? The setting near the beach in La Laguna helps but it is the staff, the quality of the food and the service that keeps everyone coming back. Paul believes that every guest should be met with a big smile and welcome. The staff are well trained and dedicated to making the customers have a positive experience. Their almost “English” service contributes to the experience. Regulars are always recognized by the staff, who pride themselves in learning as much about the customers as possible. As most of the staff have been at Buzzards for years, they are also considered part of the family.
